Mining CFO Series : Recent Legislative Changes, from Tax to Permitting

A timely and important discussion about recent regulatory and tax legislative changes in the mining / exploration sector including broad tax changes under the Alternative Minimum Tax regime which will have significant negative impacts on financing exploration and development.

Kevin Chan has over 22 years of experience providing Canadian corporate and cross-border tax services (including cross-border financing, corporate reorganizations, corporate compliance and tax audit defense) to large and medium-sized multinational companies across multiple industries including mining, oil and gas, renewable energy and retail and consumer.
Kevin also has significant experience on M&A transactions including tax due diligence, domestic and international structuring and tax modeling for both Canadian inbound and outbound companies.
Kevin regularly tutors at CPA Canada tax courses and has presented to the Tax Executives Institute, the Canadian Tax Foundation and at numerous tax conferences. He is also a contributor to various journals and publications focused on the mining industry and a co-contributing editor of the Resource Sector Taxation journal published by Federated Press.

Sander Grieve practises public market finance and mergers and acquisitions. While Sander acts for clients in a number of industries, he focuses on global mining exploration, development and extraction.
In the finance field, he acts on behalf of issuers, underwriters and agents with respect to domestic and international securities issues. His M&A activities include engagements for a variety of vendors and purchasers, in the context of the full range of friendly and hostile mandates. His corporate retainers include advice on matters of corporate governance issues and crisis response and management.
